Nokia Cape Town Fashion Week 2006
“By taking part in NCTFW, students have to meet the challenge of producing high-quality garments worthy of appearing on the catwalk. Sharing a stage with established designers forces them to look at current trends and find innovative ways to incorporate these into their ranges. It raises the standard of work that they aspire to and strive towards.” - Gideon Malherbe, director of the Academy.
“This forms part of our self-expression range as third year students. The brief was to design a range of creative and original garments based on our personal design brief. Our range had to include 5 outfits, 1 of which is “avant-garde” and “over-the-top”. This outfit was made out of a fabric that we had to manipulate. Alternatively, we could use a material other than fabric.” - Erna Theron, Third year student.
Students displayed three outfits each and were involved with the fitting, styling and dressing of the models.
“The experience they gain by all of this make them more employable and help them to make the transition from being a fashion student to making a career in fashion.” – Gideon Malherbe
