GALLOWAY FASHION ACADEMY STUDENTS SHOWCASED ON THE WORLD STAGE
The Elizabeth Galloway Fashion Academy had a strong presence at one of the biggest fashion events currently on in Europe . Five students were chosen to be part of an exhibition called: THE FASHION GENERATION- Expedition to the Fashion Schools of the world.
The exhibition is currently running in Düsseldorf , Germany from July to September. According to Elizabeth Galloway founder of the fashion academy outside Stellenbosch, it is an enormous honour to be part of such an event. “Only the most skilled young fashion design talent were chosen from around the globe to represent their country and culture”, said Galloway . “We are extremely proud of the five students who represent the Academy abroad”.
Elmé Bekker, a third year student showcased a porcupine quill corset, a handwoven wool apron and a shield and spear. Two second year students contributed to the show, Crystal Birch who just finished an internship in Los Angeles , USA exhibited a jacket made of blanket, a corset made of Pick ‘n Pay green bags with a skirt made out of dish cloths, while Nadia Pool had an exquisite African Blanket dress at the show.
Two former students, Jacobus le Roux’s wedding dress made of raw silk and ostrich feathers and Adelina le Roux garment made out of ostrich leather with a corset were also included.
The show was the brainchild of one of Germany ’s most influential young designers at the moment, Eva Grönbach.
According to Galloway this serves as a confirmation that South African designs are on par with the rest of the world and that is very exciting.
