Fashion Design(1st, 2nd & 3rd year)

This course is the heart and soul of the students' three years of study, and instruction is divided into intimately- related components, namely Fashion Illustration and Technical Drawing. In the Fashion Illustration component, students first acquire all the drawing and illustration skills necessary to effectively communicate the mood and feel of their concepts, and then embark on a journey of creativity into the exciting world of fashion design. The Technical Drawing component keeps students in touch with the real end- products of their flights of fancy, acquainting them with the notions of scale, proportion and detailing , and giving them a command of the "vocabulary" of fashion details and elements by which to express themselves.

Pattern making(1st, 2nd & 3rd year)

The Pattern making course teaches students the principles and skills involved in drafting a pattern as the first step towards being able to translate their concepts and ideas into real garments. Students begin by learning the fundamentals of measuring the human body and applying those measurements in the drafting of basic pattern blocks, to more complex skills and technique's, including the important ability to adapt their pattern to ensure a perfect fit. Along the way they learn to style - read and interpret technical and fashion drawing so that they can realize these ideas within the constraints of form and fabric. Students learn to draw up their own construction breakdowns and technical drawings, using both the Italian and Metric methods of pattern - drafting. At the end of their third year, students design and make patterns for a full range of twelve outfits.

Garment Technology(1st, 2nd & 3rd year)

In this course, students are taught the skills involved in putting a garment together, from the fundamentals right through to the advanced tailoring techniques. They learn, once again, the Italian and the Unit methods of garment construction , as well as the ability to alter their garments to ensure perfect fit. A high standard of technical expertise and accuracy is engendered and the course finishes with each student manufacturing a range of twelve outfits which are displayed at the Academy's annual fashion event.
